Rehabilitation and therapies to get you moving

At St. Bernardine Medical Center, our goal is to assess your unique condition so we can then discover whether or not you need surgery. Sometimes surgery isn't the only option to return you to activity. Physical therapy and occupational therapy provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of patients with orthopedic, neurological, muscular/skeletal impairments, cardiopulmonary and complex medical conditions.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy focuses on restoring your physical strength, range of motion, coordination/balance and endurance to achieve the highest functional outcome and level of independence.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy has a dual focus on functional independence with personal care and restoration of upper extremity function. Upper extremity rehabilitation includes the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.

Treatment plans may include:

  • Coordination activities
  • Edema management
  • Joint protection
  • Patient/family education
  • Sensory stimulation or desensitization
